Subaru
Subaru is a Japanese auto company in which Toyota owns around 15% of the company, the other percentage is owned by the Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries or FHI. Subaru is best known for the all wheel drive that is available on their vehicles, as they were the first that began making this normal in all of their vehicles, paving the way for other automakers to make that choice. They are also known for the boxer style engines that are put into their vehicles, as well as the turbo chargers that are available on many models of their vehicles.
Subaru has a long history of being handed from company to company, however, they have also been owned by FHI. This handling from company to company has affected what Subaru is today and many people view the different other automakers having a hand in the development of Subaru as a positive aspect. For example, at one point in time Nissan has a small percentage in the company, and because of this Subaru still uses some parts that are manufactured by Nissan. General Motors and Toyota both came into play after Nissan sold its share. However, GM did not keep their stake, as Toyota still has, instead wanting to make sure that all ties with FHI were cut for whatever reason.
The share that Toyota has in Subaru means that the companies work together on a few subjects. For example, a Subaru factory that was used in Indiana, soon added a Toyota line to production, which meant that several people were hired in the area, greatly improving the economy of the state. In addition, to the many cars that are built to be used by the public, Subaru also has a stake in the racing world. This is why many of their cars have turbo chargers installed on them. Due to the light weight of these cars, their performance times are some of the best out there.
Though many people focus on what an auto maker has brought to the industry car wise, one of the brightest things about Subaru is their dedication to the environment. Subaru was the first automaker who had a plant to get an award for not having to utilize a land fill in order to get rid of their trash. Everything that Subaru uses in their cars can be recycled. For example, many parts throughout the vehicles are made of aluminum, which not only gives them a lighter weight as mentioned before, but also means that once the vehicle comes to the point that it will not longer run and no amount of work will fix it, the car can be tore apart and the parts recycled. In addition, they offer several vehicles that are partially zero emissions cars which helps the environment in many ways. This goal of helping the environment is what draws many people to purchase a Subaru in the first place as they want to do their part to help.
